Jim Hole lives in Edmonton Alberta and works nearby at his family’s greenhouse and garden centre in Saint Albert, where divides his time between writing about what he does and doing what he writes about. Explaining what makes plants tick is Jim’s specialty, and he does it without ever losing sight of the beauty and wonder that makes gardening enjoyable. In addition to writing bestselling books, newspaper columns for the Edmonton Journal and Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, Jim can be heard on CBC radio and seen on various TV stations. Jim is Alberta’s most articulate horticulturist – and one of the most knowledgeable. He is ardent about plants, the environment and business. His passion inspires audience members to “get down and dirty” and to regenerate their lives with horticulture. His humour and engaging spirit are legendary, making him a highly sought-after speaker nation-wide. Jim is co-owner of Hole’s Greenhouses Ltd., located in the Enjoy Centre. The Enjoy Centre includes greenhouses, a wellness spa, a restaurant, a deli, a kitchen tool store, an organic food store, a wine store, a bakery, a garden centre and a convention/conference space. Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture (Plant Science major) from the University of Alberta, Professional Agrologist, Certified Professional Horticulturist with the American Society for Horticultural Science, Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. Jim is also Past President of the University of Alberta Alumni Association and co-chaired the University’s Centenary Celebrations. Jim is the son of the former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Lois Hole.
